The Guthrie Church of Christ shared that they are hosting their drive for winter essentials as a way for the community to both participate and recieve.

An Effort Grounded in Personal Experience

The effort is rooted in personal experiences from Maurice's own childhood.

Growing up in a family of eight children, Maurice reflected on times when his family went without some of the essentials needed to stay warm. Now, he hopes to help other families avoid similar hardships.

"We need to support our people in Guthrie," Maurice explained.

The congregation is collecting toboggans, hats, gloves, scarves, clothing and blankets for children and adults in Guthrie. The goal is to collect 100 of each item with all donations staying local.

This is the Guthrie Church of Christ's first winter clothing drive, but Maurice hopes to make it an annual effort and find additional ways to serve the community throughout the year.

How to Donation

Donations will be accepted through December 15th at the Guthrie Church of Christ, located at 706 Park Street West.

A collection box will be available under the carport for drop-offs at any time. Those wishing to deliver donations directly can find Maurice at the church on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Todd County Burn Ban Lifted, but There’s a Catch...

Todd County's burn ban was lifted last week, allowing residents to resume outdoor burning without concern over the county's restricting them. But as Todd Emergency Management Director Ash Groves explained to the Todd County Fiscal Court on October 23rd, the end of the countywide ban does not mean residents can burn whenever they want. (Todd County Emergency Management Director Ash Groves Addressing Fiscal Court) “The county burn ban has been lifted since the 15th of October,” Ash said. “However, we are still under the state burn ban, which runs every year.” This information is important for residents who have been waiting for an opportunity to burn brush, leaves and other accumulated yard debris. From a Countywide Ban to Limited Burning On September 3rd, Todd County Emergency Management announced an immediate countywide burn ban in response to severe to extreme drought, extreme heat and very low humidity. The ban prohibited open burning of any kind. That included burning leaves...

The New Guthrie Commercial and Graphic · The New Guthrie Commercial & Graphic - Interview with Capo Eats ("I Love Guthrie") - 9/30/2026 (Capo Loves Guthrie and Says He Feels Like He's Part of the Community Here Too) I approached the American Café, a place he had insisted we meet. Unsure where he would be, I started toward the entrance facing Happy Ice Cream and Snacks. We had communicated a little on Facebook, followed by a couple of phone calls. I knew what he looked like, but I wasn't sure he would be able to pick me out. Suddenly, I saw a hand waving at me through a car's windshield. It was him. It was the person the region has come to know as Capo. We introduced ourselves in person for the first time, then I followed him inside. The question that kept circulating in my mind was simple... What causes a content creator like Capo to continue circling back to a small town like Guthrie? I had to find out. The café was alive with conversation. A group of men sa...

Rain or shine, cold or whatever may come, Guthrie shows up. (Police Chief Kevin Saunders Leading the Way with Breast Cancer Awareness Banner) This was the spirit found Saturday, October 17th, as community members gathered at Longhurst Park for a breast cancer awareness walk. This event brought together survivors, families, and supporters. The event included local vendors, food grilled by the fire department, music from DJ Eric, door prizes, and a rock-painting station in which participants could paint the name of someone affected by breast cancer on the rocks as blessing rocks. Each activity offered another way for people to take part, remember loved ones, and show support. (Image of Some of the Festivities) For those gathered, the day was about more than going for a walk around town. It was about the people behind the cause. Stories of Survival and Hope One who shared their experience was Tammy Sharp, having been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2025 after years of routine mammograms. ...
